Our Story

Fortune Sea Marine Services was founded in 2019 by Ian Pitzman, but its roots stretch back to 2004 when Ian first launched his parent company Fortune Sea. After many years of operating his own fishing fleet, Ian saw the very real need for a comprehensive local shipyard operator. His vision was to create an honest & reliable ship repair company, that reflected his passion for the fishing industry and dedication to the community. With the two decades of industry experience and wisdom from Fortune Sea, Fortune Sea Marine Services has evolved to offer a full range of vessel repair services. Backed by a highly skilled team and a commitment to growth, FSMS will continue to evolve to tackle new challenges and serve the maritime community of Homer and beyond.

Meet the Team

Ian Pitzman

General Manager

Ian grew up in Homer, Alaska, and began his career in the commercial fishing industry as a deckhand on halibut and salmon boats in the Cook Inlet. He quickly progressed to larger, more industrial fisheries and boats. Over the years, working in various shipyards and with many vendors gave him the perspective and desire to launch Fortune Sea Marine Services as a comprehensive ship repair and haul-out business. He currently serves as General Manager, supported by a great crew that makes up the heart of the operation.

Renee Alward

Chief Administrator

Renee settled in Homer in 1999 to raise a family with her husband, Matt. In 2004, they bought their first commercial fishing vessel, the Shrike, and began salmon seining in the Lower Cook Inlet. Over the years Renee began doing bookkeeping and business management for their various fishing and net-building endeavors under the mentorship of Zen Kelly. Renee has had the pleasure of working with Ian since 2008. As Ian’s ventures grew, so did Renee’s involvement and she now serves as Chief Administrator for the Fortune Sea group.
